European Peace Ride 2023 – A strong sign for Europe

On the way to the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, the European Peace Ride 2023 started on the Old Town Bridge in Görlitz/Zgorzelec - a symbol of European friendship. Once divided, the cities are now celebrating 25 years of shared development as European cities.State Minister Carsten Schneider took over the patronage, and Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Mayor Sven Schulze gave the starting signal on September 8th, 2023.

The route - a real peacetime classic

The route led via Mladá Boleslav and Plzeň – a real peacetime classic.

Fortunately, the proportion of women among the 200 participants increased significantly in 2023, and Polish, Czech and German athletes as well as para-athletes (drivers requiring assistance) also rode together.

The Tour de France stage winners André Greipel and Marcus Burghardt also mastered the 500 km with 6000 meters of altitude.

European Peace Ride 2023 – A strong sign for Europe

On September 10th, 2023, hundreds of cyclists from various initiatives rode together with the European Peace Ride to the finish line on Theaterplatz in Chemnitz.As part of Sports United, over 500 participants were welcomed with choreographies and applause. Mayor Sven Schulze and State Minister Katja Meier welcomed the riders after three days, 500 km and 5000 m altitude.
